THE BIODYNAMIC PREPARATIONS

Biodynamic preparations

In the Biodynamic farming and gardening we improve the vitality of soil by using special preparations. They are:

No.  500 Horndung preparation. It is used 1-3 x in the beginning of the growing season for fostering the expanding growth of the plants. It should be sprayed in the afternoon or evening on the ground which should preferably be moist. The preparation has to be mixed with the water for an hour. (20 l natural water + a hen's egg size of preparation for 0,5 hectare /1.2 acres area.)

No. 501 Quartz or Silicon preparation is used after the plants have reached their full size. It will promote the maturing development of the plants: the blooming and the forming of the fruits and seeds. It should be sprayed in the morning on the leaves of the plants in dry weather (20 l water + 1 teaspoon quartz powder for 0,5 hectare /1.2 acres area). 501 should be stored in a glas jar at a sunny window.

"Fladenpräparat" (Germ.), evolved by Maria Thun, is about like No. 500, but consists also of some minerals and is made differently. Among other things, it protects plants against radioactivity, and it supplements but not replaces No. 500. Mixing for 20 minutes.

The preparations have to be removed from their mailing packets and placed in glass jars as soon as possible, and they should be stored in peat in a cool cellar, except 501.

Compost at the stage for getting turned around

Preparations for the Compost Heaps  Nos. 502 - 507

The compost preparations steer the rotting in the right direction and they are made of 6 medicinal herbs:

nettle - Urtíca dióica

dandelion - Taráxacum officinále

milfoil/yarrow - Achilléa millefólium

oak tree bark - for example Quercus robur

camomile - Matricária chamomilla

valerian - Valeriána officinális  (liquid)

- which are handled in a special way. The process from picking the plants until the preparation is ready takes one year - except for valerian.

In the picture, the garden compost is at the stage for getting turned around and then continuing the maturing.

Stirring

There should be a wooden tub or barrel for stirring preparations. If these are not available, a plastic tub will do. >

The water shall be preferably natural, not from a water pipe. Water from a well should be kept in the sunshine for some hours before using it.

< The water should also be suitably warm, and a part of it can be warmed up, best of all with real fire.

The preparations strengthen the etheric level and are very important for Nature. That's why Nature thanks us for our efforts sometimes in a surprising way. We should much more often thank Nature!

The big farms usually make their preparations themselves but home gardners can ask the local biodynamic society where they can buy them. In Finland, the address for orders is www.rihu.net .

The preparation has to be stirred in a certain way: Make a deep whirlpool and when it is ready, change the direction and make a new one and change the direction again. Continue this for one hour. >

(Picture below) Now the preparation Nr. 500 is ready. >

It will be sprayed onto the ground in small drops. The spraying can be done with a backpack spray but for small areas, a bucket and some spruce twigs will do.
After the preparation is ready, it must be sprayed within two hours. >
